“National Security and Nuclear Energy – Breaking out of Silos“

Over the course of her career, Ms. Connery has observed that the disciplines of nonproliferation, nuclear security, nuclear energy, safety, nuclear weapons including arms control/deterrence have been explored mostly in isolation. This construct ignores the interdependence of the disciplines that could benefit from coordination and the fact that challenges in one discipline bleed over into the others. Developing a more coordinated approach to cross-cutting issues and leveraging opportunities would improve the strategic outlook for the nuclear enterprise in both the government and private sectors. Ms. Connery would like to lead a discussion that outlines the opportunities and the challenges of our complex nuclear enterprise.
